about meden - caring...

We want children to be happy coming to school and to feel safe and secure. We believe children develop best in a caring environment. The Meden has still retained its four HOUSES (Clyfton, Pagnell, Rutland and Whiteman) even though tutorials are arranged in year groups. Pupils will belong to one of these houses, which will be indicated by a colour on their school badge (Blue for Clyfton, Green for Pagnell, Red for Rutland and Yellow for Whiteman). Pupils will compete in inter-house competitions, swimming galas, sports day and winter games. On entering the school each pupil is placed in a tutorial group in their year and stays with that same tutor throughout the five years.

Caring...

Tutors are responsible for the daily welfare of their tutees and can help to monitor their progress year by year. The Individual Education Record a pupil keeps is an important frame of reference for pupil, tutor and parent. It will not only help to track academic progress but also allow targets to be set, achievements and interests to be identified and ambitions and career aspirations to be thought about.

Our planned parents' evenings and tutor review days allow subject teachers, tutors and parents the opportunity to share information so that builds up in a caring and professional way. High priority is given to attendance at The Meden as students cannot benefit from their education unless they attend school regularly. Our Education Welfare Officer provides an important link with families and has access the Council Social Services and its facilities.
