about meden - mission statement...

Our mission statement has been arrived through careful consideration of our vision and values.

VISION

Our vision for Meden School and Technology College is a community with learning at its heart.  As a learning institution we strive to provide an environment within which all members can learn and grow as individuals.  We include everyone in this vision; children and adults.  As a school we acknowledge that learning never stops and it most certainly is not age related.
Allied to this is our belief that by having high expectations of ourselves and all our children, we can challenge and be challenged within a safe learning environment to be the best we possibly can be.
Thus our vision statement is:

The Meden School and Technology College - A learning community with high expectations.

CORE VALUES

We have five core values that underpin all our work.  They are:

CONFIDENCE

  • Developing the ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of people and through a variety of mediums is an essential skill for all.
  • We believe that having the confidence to take risks and try new ways of learning will enrich the experience of all our pupils and staff.
  • The third, and probably most important aspect of this value, is to have the confidence to make mistakes.  It is often the mistakes we make that enable us to learn best.  We allow children and adults to learn from their mistakes; ridicule of people who “get it wrong” is unacceptable at Meden. We recognise that children make mistakes but if they learn from them and move forward positively, we are happy.

ASPIRATION

  • This value underpins our belief that it is crucial to have high hopes and provide a positive climate within which to prepare our learners for their future.
  • We offer a variety of opportunities for pupils and staff to take on additional responsibilities and challenges within the school.
  • Our curriculum includes elements that encourage pupils to consider their relationship with the community in which they live and the responsibilities and opportunities that exist for active citizenship.
  • The third element of this value is the aspiration that can develop from understanding the opportunities that exist for us in the world as a global community.

RESPECT

  • Meden sees this value as central to everything we strive to achieve and incorporate it into the curriculum, in the way we behave and as a basis for all decision making.
  • We believe first and foremost in respect for ourselves as individuals, and through PSHCE provide opportunities for pupils to develop self-esteem.
  • Our second aim is to respect each other and teach tolerance of others through a wide range of curriculum experiences.
  • Finally, we encourage all our learners to have respect for their environment; starting with school and home and reaching out beyond the local to national and global issues.

ENJOYMENT

  • We aim to generate a love of learning and aspire to enable people to see this as a life long possibility.
  • Leisure is a vital contributor to personal health and well-being.  We aim to encourage all members of the Meden Learning Community to ensure there is a balance between work and relaxation.  Children learn through play and require opportunities to socialise both in and out of school; adults need a healthy work/life balance.
  • At Meden we believe that if people develop a love of learning and ensure they experience quality leisure activities, then their chances of living an enjoyable life are high.

SUCCESS

  • We offer opportunities for all our members that enable them to experience success.  Targets, though challenging, are based on what is achievable for individual children so all can experience success and staff performance targets are set in order to provide the same opportunity.
  • We encourage success by having high, but realistic expectations of pupils.  We offer a variety of rewards to children in order to encourage their pursuit of success; these range from verbal praise, letters and certificates to vouchers, prizes and trips.
  • Finally, we celebrate success in a number of ways which include assemblies, prize-giving, awards evenings, class celebrations and a whole host of events and performances to which parents and carers are invited.
