about meden - the school day...
Pupils are supervised in school from 8.20 a.m. The school day is divided into five teaching periods, four being taught in the morning and one in the afternoon. Morning registration is at 8.30 a.m. The current times of lessons are printed at the back of the prospectus. A Main Hall Assembly is held in the afternoon for different year groups around a moral, social, cultural and spiritual theme. The school finishes at 3.15 p.m.
Lunchtime Arrangements
As from September 2006 Year 7 and 8 pupils are not allowed to leave the premises at lunchtime. Pupils in years 9, 10 and 11 who wish to go home must return a form signed by a parent or carer. When agreeing for their child to be off "campus" at lunch time, parents/carers should be aware of their legal responsibilities. The school releases pupils specifically to "go home for lunch" and not to go into Warsop to buy food. Any pupil leaving the campus must have a valid pass with their photograph on it.
How We Teach
When pupils join the school in Year 7 careful account is taken of assessment data from primary schools at Key Stage 2, in order for work to be targeted at the appropriate level. From Year 8 pupils are settled in some subjects according to ability.
Pupils are carefully assessed throughout the year to ensure that work is challenging and tailored to their particular needs. A variety of teaching methods are used and regular reviews with tutors are a vital part of teaching. Detailed annual reports are issued to parents and consultation evening are held during the course of the year. Each pupil will have an Individual Education Record which needs to be continually updated as the pupil moves through the school. This will provide an important focus of review for the pupil, tutor and parent.
