about meden - special needs...
The special educational needs of pupils are identified prior to their joining the school and further assessment takes place on entry. Work and support is targeted accordingly. Each year group is reviewed regularly by curriculum teams. Support is provided in the classroom and across curriculum subjects for these pupils. Exceptionally able pupils are identified by their primary school as well as by assessment on entry. All teachers are made aware of their needs through the schools' annual review of progress.
The school has a learning support room used for teaching small groups and for giving individual attention. The school also has excellent working relationships with external agencies such as the educational psychologist, emotional and behavioural support staff, the school's medical service and Connexions (Career Guidance Service). The Special Needs Code of Practice has been fully implemented.
