Uniform

Visitors to the school often comment on the smart and tidy appearance of the pupils at The Meden School. We believe that such high standards are achieved largely through our insistence that pupils wear the school uniform. Uniform dress helps our pupils to develop a sense of pride in themselves and their school. All pupils are expected therefore to wear the full school uniform and to conform to the standards which we set.

Students in the Sixth Form at The Meden are not expected to wear uniform although it is expected that they dress in a smart style appropriate to their position as senior members of the school.

Careers guidance

Careers guidance is part of our Personal and Social Education programme. It provides for all pupils to ensure that they are well prepared to make the correct choice about their future. The school has firm links with local industries and is involved in a scheme of work experience for both year 10 and year 12 students. The County Careers Officers visit the school regularly, providing an excellent advice service for pupils from year 9 onwards.

Health and Sex Education

This is taught in accordance with the programme agreed with the Governing Body of the school. We acknowledge that some parents will have strong feelings about sex education their children should receive. Whilst hoping that all our pupils will be allowed to attend the courses we teach, we shall be pleased to discuss individual parental concerns when they occur.

Religious Education Policy

The school has no affiliation with any particular religious denomination. The Religious Education syllabus for all years is based on the requirements of the Nottinghamshire agreed syllabus. The school will make arrangements for parents to exercise their right to withdraw their children from religious worship.

The Wider Community

The Meden School and Technology College is very much a part of the wider community and encourages links with local agencies, schools, colleges, businesses and industry. Our school provides a rich educational resource for the community and we welcome ideas for furthering the development of adult education and out of hours learning. Our Summer School is only one example of the way we are attempting to maximise the use of our school campus and maximise the potential of youngsters within the community.
