Curriculum
Meden School's ICT department offers a broad range of courses to our students. All Key Stage 3 pupils currently follow a discrete ICT course for 1 hour per week. The lessons include data logging, presentations, control systems, spreadsheets, databases, leaflet design and creating web pages. Year 9 pupils will start their OCR Nationals KS4 course from January and will complete a small unit by the end of the year.
At Key Stage 4 all pupils will gain an OCR Nationals qualification by the end of year 10. Pupils can also opt to take additional units. These units involve all aspects of ICT, as well as creating graphics and multimedia projects.
In the Sixth Form we offer OCR GCE in Applied ICT at AS for 09/10. A new course, OCR Nationals level 3 has been introduced for AS students. This is a continuation of the course followed in KS4 and is a 2 year course. Some pupils will follow a one year Functional Skills course.
Access to ICT
Many school departments use ICT to promote learning and pupils are also encouraged to use ICT out of lesson times. The ICT Team are happy to support our colleagues in their use of ICT. We regularly have over 60 students using PCs at lunchtimes. The ICT block is also open to pupils after the school day.
ICT Resources
Within our recently upgraded ICT Centre we have six ICT suites with a total of over 150 PCs. Other suites are sited within theTechnology, Science and Mathematics Faculties. All students have e-mail accounts and can access our ICT resources remotely from home. The ICT resources are supported by a Systems Manager and two ICT Technicians.
