Facilities
We teach some mixed PE in Year 7 but on the whole teach PE to single sex groups. We offer a wide range of courses at Key Stage 4 that included Full, Short and Games GCSE and GCSE Dance. In addition we are delivering Level 1 Sports Leaders to Year 10 after school and CLSA to post 16 students. At Key Stage 5 we offer A/S and A level PE and we are introducing BTEC Sport Level 2 in September 2007.
We enjoy an active and very successful extra curricular programme in a wide range of sports and provide extensive opportunities in Outdoor Education. We continue to be involved in the School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCo) programme where we work closely with our family of schools. We are a friendly and very supportive department.
GCSE Physical Education
In Year 9 all pupils opt for additional courses to be studied. The Department offers a range of GCSE courses although predominantly offer the ‘Games’ course. Initially all pupils work in mixed ability groups during theoretical work. However at the end of the first half term all pupils are tested and subsequently placed in sets according to ability. Their theory teacher is then responsible for teaching the remaining of the theory course as well as monitor practical scores for recording and targeting purposes. The academic year 2007 will operate GCSE group in one of the option groups preventing setting.
