Science At Meden...

About the department:

The Meden Science faculty consists of 11 members of staff (6 Biologists, 2 Physicist, 3 Chemists and 3 Technicians).  Each teacher has their own teaching room, personal laptop and interactive whiteboard. Each room is networked to the schools server and has internet access. The faculty has developed strong links with the community and feeder schools through its work as a major technology college member.

Key Stage 3 Curriculum:

Is taught using the departments own SOW but utilising the Science text books as reference material.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum:

All pupils follow AQA GCSE Double Award Science with modules taught by subject specialists. The faculty is responsible for the preparation and delivery of Vocational Health and Social Care.

Key Stage 5 Curriculum:

The department offers a broad range of subjects at A-level these include: Biology AQA, Chemistry SALTERS, Physics EDEXCEL, Psychology AQA, Human Biology AQA, Health and Social Care EDEXCEL. All subjects are taught through a modular scheme with entries for candidates in January and June each year.

Facilities:

The department consists of 10 laboratories each with an interactive whiteboard and projector, one computer room with a suite of 32 PC’s and a further set of 32 laptops. Two new science rooms were built in 2004 which offer state of the art learning technologies within a comfortable environment. A further 2 laboratories have been recently refurbished. A large preparatory room with 1 senior technician and 2 technician’s offer excellent support to the science teaching staff.
