our curriculum...

All pupils have access to a curriculum that meets the demands of the broad and balanced National Curriculum. In years 7, 8 and 9 pupils follow a common range of subjects: English, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Science, ICT, Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education, Religious Education and Personal and Social Education. In Year 7 an integrated approach is being taken to the delivery of Humanities.

14 to 19 Education

Our offer at 14 to 19 is significantly increased by our membership of the Mansfield Learning Partnership.

Key Stage 4

In Years 10 and 11 we still believe it is important for all pupils to maintain breadth and balance. So in addition to the core curriculum subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Technology pupils are encouraged to select courses which will also include Modern Languages, Humanities and an aesthetic or physical course of study. GCSE Vocational and BTEC courses are also available. As part of the Mansfield Learning Partnership we are now involved in delivering Engineering and Society, Health and Development diploma courses. Meden students also have access to a broad range of diplomas at other schools.

Great care and attention is given to Option Choices through our guidance and advice programme and there are chances for full discussion at parents' consultation evenings and in individual interviews with pupils. We will make sure that each pupil has a balanced education which will enable them to move with confidence into full time education in Years 12 and 13, employment or training.

Post-16 Education

We have enjoyed a steady rise in the number of students wishing to continue their education into Years 12 and 13, which has allowed us to broaden our courses. Our offer is shared with a number of schools in the Mansfield area based on a common timetable. Students now follow a variety of AS/A level and vocational courses over one or two years. Our Sixth Form is open to any student who would like to benefit from further study with courses available at various levels. Students also have the opportunity to take part in many activities, including work experience, sport and recreation and a programme of personal and social education and careers guidance.

Students have their own centre and study area, and are organised into sixth form tutorials under the direction of Head of Years 12 and 13. We enjoy seeing many of our students going on to higher education at a wide range of universities and colleges. Detailed information about all specialist subjects is available in the Post-16 section of this web site.
