Latest News - Strike / Mobile phone misuse...

Dear Parents / Carers

NUT ACTION
You will be aware that members of the NUT have voted for a national strike in response to the School Teachers’ Review Body’s recommended pay increases for school teachers. The industrial action will be for one day and will take place on Thursday, 24 April 2008. The dispute is a national one and therefore there is nothing the school or the County Council can do to resolve the situation.

I have been advised that it may not be possible to open the school building on that day.  Even if we managed to open the building there is unlikely to be sufficient staff available to cover classes in the school.  In these circumstances, my first concern has to be for the health and safety of children and consequently, I must ask that you do not send them to school on that day.

The school will be open to VI Form students on 24 April as they will be able to take a study period during those lessons that are affected by the strike.

I am sorry for any inconvenience that this causes to you and your family.

MOBILE PHONE MISUSE
The school’s position on mobile phones remains clear; we do not want to see them in school and take no responsibility for any that are lost, stolen or damaged.  We do realise however that some parents insist that their children carry them for emergencies.  Recently, it has come to our attention that some pupils have been either filming, photographing or recording other children or staff. This is an infringement of peoples’ rights to privacy and in the case of photographing children without parental permission, is illegal.

This week all pupils will be in receipt of a document that outlines the school policy regarding the recording of any images without the permission of the person concerned.  They will be expected to sign to say they have read it and will abide by it.  I am sure you will support our attempts to safeguard your children and our staff from abuse.

Yours sincerely,

Kate Reid
Head Teacher
