Art and Design

Exam Board: Pearson

In Year 10 students explore the theme of Natural Forms Versus Man Made Structures from September to April. This body of work is designed to support students to develop key skills and knowledge within Art. Students will explore a wide range of materials and processes whilst being exposed to a wide range of artists. The project is divided into key areas such as drawing, colour, painting, printmaking, photography and ceramics. It also underpins the areas needed for the structure of a project including research, investigation, analysis, designs, development and review.

From April to July students explore the theme of sea life around the UK and look at raising awareness. They are given a client brief to design and make a product for a local sea life centre gift shop. Students can either design or make an actual product or create the artwork to go on a product. This is a Mock Unit designed to support students with the completion of the 2 Units in Year 11.

In Year 11 students will complete 2 externally set assignments. The client briefs are set by the exam board and learners will need to respond with art or design work and a portfolio. Each of the units take a maximum of twenty hours and can be arranged over a number of sessions in a twelve-week period timetabled by Pearson. Time management and meeting deadlines is a crucial element of Year 11 Art.

Additional Information
Students are required to actively engage in the creative process of art, craft and design in order to develop as effective and independent learners, and as critical and reflective thinkers with inquiring minds. It is expected that students complete work at home. Students will work in sketchbooks and will need to present their work in a professional manner.  Art students are required to have a waterproof folder to carry work to and from school and a set of drawing pencils. All the equipment and materials required by students are offered for sale by the Art Department at discounted prices.
