Performance for Music Practitioners

Exam Board: Pearson

Throughout Y10 & Y11 pupils will develop their musical performing, creating and production skills. You will be able to choose which instrument you wish to focus on such as: piano, guitar, drums, vocals.

The BTEC qualification consists of three separate units:

Component 1: Exploring Music Products and Styles 30% internally assessed

You will study how musical elements work together to create unique genres of music for example:

You will explore these genres by performing on your chosen instrument, creating your own music and producing music on the computer.

Component 2: Music Skills Development 30% internally assessed

You will study how to improve your skills at performing, creating and producing.

You will learn:

You will create 2 final products.

Component 3: Responding to a Music Brief 40% externally assessed

This is your exam component. It is worth 40% of your marks.

You will be given 4 different genres and 10 different songs to choose from. You need to choose one genre and one song and you create a new remix version of the song in your chosen genre.
