The GCSE course continues to develop the skills and understanding you have already been working on during Key Stage 3. There will be core experiments to complete throughout the course.
Additional Information
For science lessons, you will need to bring your equipment to every lesson. You should have: pen, pencil, ruler and a scientific calculator.
Science is a critical qualification for thousands of careers. It demonstrates multiple skills such as: manual dexterity, problem solving, team work, research, creative thinking and the ability to learn difficult concepts.
Based on government guidelines the school has high aspirations for all our students, in particular our brightest students. As a result, any students in 9Co or 9Ni, at the option choice deadline will be automatically entered onto the triple science pathway. This will mean they will benefit from 3 extra science lessons a week and end up with one extra GSCE qualification.
Combined (two GCSEs in science)
Triple (three GCSEs in science)
There are two tiers of entry for the final exam: foundation, which covers grades 1–5, and higher which covers grade 4–9. At each level, pupils will sit 6 exam papers at the end of the course: two biology, two chemistry and two physics. The triple exams are longer than the combined exams.
At various times throughout the course, you will sit an internally-assessed exam, in order to show your current progress and what you need to do to improve further.
Final decisions about tiers of entry are not made until the later stage of the course.
